Is Watchmen season 2 really dead? Well, don’t believe everything you heard. Watchmen ended its nearly perfect nine-episodes run on HBO late in 2019 which was equally explosive, personal, and open-ended. We won’t say anything about that before the spoiler warning.
But suffice it to say, this series has scored a perfect 10. Now, of course, one of the many, many pressing questions on fans’ minds after the credits rolled was, ‘Is there going to be another season?’
So, it’s safe to assume that you have seen the show and remembered how Watchmen’s first season ended, with basically everyone’s plan thwarted, with the Seventh Cavalry destroying Dr. Manhattan, Lady Trieu destroying the Seventh Cavalry, and Ozymandias destroying Lady Trieu.
But it’s the final scene where Angela Abar about to find out if she has been gifted Dr. Manhattan’s right before we find out the answer to that questions, and that has friends on the edge of their seats. Does she or doesn’t she?
Will there be Watchmen Season 2?
While some were content with the open-ended nature of this shot, akin to ‘Inceptions’ spinning top or the finale of ‘The Sopranos’. There is no denying there’s still plenty of stories left to tell, thanks to the excellent world-building from everyone involved. And many were hopeful that the second season might be in the cards.
But those hopes Watchmen Season 2 appeared to be dashed when ‘USA Today recently reported that HBO is not going to pursue a second season because The Watchmen’s showrunner Damon Lindelof was not going to be involved.
So that seems pretty cut-and-dry, right? It seems like we are all done watching ‘The Watchmen’ or at least we are done watching ‘The Watchmen’ at least on HBO for now, but it turns out reports of this franchise’s demise might have been greatly exaggerated.
HBO wants Watchmen Season 2, but they are gonna make damn sure that the timing and the story should be pitch-perfect, even if that takes time.
So while it’s true that HBO isn’t actively on production on a second season, they will still make one if all parties agree, if there’s a new story to tell.
Watchmen Season 2: Plot
There are still plenty of mysteries left to explore, like who is Lube Man, even though we know that it’s Petey?
And what’s up with Daniel Drieberg, aka the Nite Owl, who we least heard was in prison? And how did a Red Scare became in Nazi?
But even if the show doesn’t continue it told a great story, and even if it’s ending was open-ended, it certainly wasn’t a cliff hanger that definitely needs to be revisited.
We will just have to wait and watch if the right story comes up, eventually.
Who will be in the cast of season Watchmen Season 2?
The first season introduced a handful of innovative characters, who were not there in the comic – some include Sister Knight aka Angela Abar, the black-masked vigilante played by Regina King, and Wade Tillman, known as Looking Glass.
In addition, three characters portrayed from Alan Moore’s original – Adrian Veidt (aka Ozymandias), Laurie Blake (Silk Spectre), and Doctor Manhattan respectively.
Any characters who survived the first season will probably return in the Watchmen Season 2, along with the possibility that some more faces from or outside the comic.
The franchise’s innovative flashback nature leaves open the possibilities of casting actors in a present or historical era.
Meanwhile, we never predict anything about this industry, hopefully, there is Watchmen Season 2. You never know what’s in the mind of Damon Lindelof!
